Seamless pipes

On this page, you will learn:

Types of seamless pipe

A seamless steel pipe comes in a wide range of diameters and thicknesses and can be manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex and super duplex stainless steel. It also undergoes different treatments such as galvanizing and coating. Moreover, it can be weld overlayed with CRA material (typically UNS N06625 or 316L) to ensure corrosion resistance. DSS and SDSS pipes can be produced to be Norsok M-650 compliant.

We also supply fittings and flanges in stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, nickel alloys, and titanium.

Stainless steel pipe

This material includes most of the pipes and fittings because it is a resistant one and suitable for carrying corrosive, chemical agents even in extreme conditions. It is non-deformable and resists high temperatures as well as frost. Stainless steel pipe is used for transporting liquids and gasses in a wide range of industries including mining, oil, natural gas, automotive, and aviation. We carry a wide range of stainless steel pipes available in standard sizes or customized to your needs.

Carbon steel & high yield seamless pipe

Carbon steel seamless pipes lend themselves to numerous applications: in particular they are indicated when laying conditions or soil require a high mechanical strength of the product. Moreover, it can be weld overlayed with CRA material (typically UNS N06625 or 316L) to ensure corrosion resistance. DSS and SDSS pipes can be produced to be Norsok M-650 compliant.

Duplex and super duplex seamless pipe

Duplex stainless steels have a biphasic microstructure (equal proportions of austenite and ferrite). Today the further development of duplex steels has led to five product groups:

  • Lean duplex steels (European designation EN 1.4362 1.4482-1.4162-1.4062-1.4655);
  • Standard duplex steels (European designation EN 1.4462);
  • 25% Cr duplex steels (European designation EN 1.4507);
  • Super duplex steels 25-26% Cr with Mo and N (European designation EN 1.4410-1.4501-1.4477);
  • Hyper duplex steels (high alloy duplex stainless steels).

In addition to these groups, duplex stainless steel castings exist (European designation EN 1.4463). Pipes made in duplex or super duplex are more resistant to corrosive environments, both in highly acidic environments and in caustic environments. Furthermore, they have excellent mechanical strength.

Special large diameter seamless pipe

Large-diameter seamless steel tube is made from hollow forging machined to size. These tubes are designed with good tolerances and are utilized in large-scale piping operations. The larger diameter of these pipes allows them to carry more fluids and possess a bigger flow rate, so they are excellent at carrying oil and gas over long distances.

How seamless pipes are made

A seamless steel pipe are made by trepanning of forged bars.

Uses of seamless steel pipes

Seamless pipes have a great number of applications in different industries. For instance, depending on the type and material, they can be used in general structure and mechanical applications, petroleum, gas, and other fluids conveying, steam and boiler manufacturing, hydraulic support, well and geological drilling, furnace tubes, and heat exchangers.

Advantages in applying seamless pipes

Why should you prefer seamless steel pipes and when is it suggested their use? First of all, they stand out for their extremely high-pressure resistance, as they don’t have cracking welded points. Moreover, it is easier to calculate the pressure of seamless steel pipes, as they are made uniformly in a thinner material.

Summarizing, seamless pipe is:

  • More resistant and less subjected to cracks;
  • Without any weld seams;
  • More uniform anodizing appearance, especially on heavier wall sections;
  • No weld seams that could split informing operation;
  • Increased structural integrity;
  • Good mechanical properties;
  • Good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance.

If you are looking to buy the best quality seamless steel pipes, you should use M.E.G.A. seamless steel pipes.

Difference between seamless and welded pipes

Seamless pipes have many advantages over welded pipes as they are built using monolithic steel billets, with intrinsic mechanical strength, without seam welds. Unlikely, welded steel pipe, including LSAW pipe, SSAW pipe, and ERW steel pipe, are forged with a steel strip or steel plate into circular, square, or other shapes. They are cost and material-saving, resistant, and mostly used in aviation, aerospace, energy, electronics, and automotive.

The main difference between seamless and welded pipes are:

  • Appearance: welded steel pipe surface quality is better than seamless pipe;
  • Molding process: as we said, welded steel pipe is manufactured with steel strip or steel plate, while the seamless pipe is formed all in once;
  • Performance and applications: in seamless steel pipe you can easily measure pressure capacity, and strength is higher than ERW welded steel pipe;
  • Costs difference: seamless steel pipe price is higher than welded steel pipes, because of the raw material, manufacturing equipment, and processes.
