9 Airless Spraying MISTAKES And How To Avoid Them

Well we think it&#;s a little bit of both. In the old days a lot of outside work was done using oil based paint. When this was sprayed it would carry further. The main reason for this is that it takes longer to dry so when it does eventually land then it can adhere. These days we use a lot if water based paints. On a warm day atomised water based paint will be dry in as little as 3 or 4 meters and once it lands on a surface it is basically dust.

There are 4 ways in which you can avoid overspray.

  1. Firstly, make sure that you are the correct distance away from the surface when spraying, too far away (and this is common) and you will get a lot of overspray. The correct distance is between 10&#; and 12&#;
  2. Secondly, make sure that your tip is not worn. A worn tip will cause loads of overspray. Some sprayers use a brand new tip in every new outside job to minimise overspray.
  3. Thirdly, do not fan the gun. You need to keep you gun parallel to the surface, if you wave your gun about then you will cause directional overspray.
  4. Finally, use a spray shield. A cardboard one is best. Use it on anywhere where you may spray past the surface such as a corner of a house.
